Michael Pitt to star and produce “You Can’t Win”

“Boardwalk Empire” alum Michael Pitt is returning to the bigscreen for the first time in five years, as he’s set to topline and produce “You Can’t Win,” an adaptation of adventurer Jack Black’s 1926 autobiographical novel of the same name that will be directed by “Zoo” helmer Robinson Devor.

Parts & Labor principals Lars Knudsen and Jay Van Hoy will produce with Robert Scarff and Zach Sebastian, as well as Pitt. Devor and Pitt co-wrote the script with Barry Gifford (“Lost Highway”) and Charles Mudede, who worked with Devor on “Zoo” and “Police Beat.” Production is skedded to start later this month in Seattle. Black’s best-selling novel tells of his experiences in the hobo underworld, freight-hopping around the still Wild West of the United States and Canada while he explores the topics of crime, addiction, criminal justice and human folly from various viewpoints. William S. Burroughs cited “You Can’t Win” as an extremely influential book in his life, and it was among his inspirations for his 1953 semi-autobiographical novel “Junkie.”

Pitt first came to attention as Michelle Williams’ love interest on “Dawson’s Creek” before going on to make a name for himself in daring indie fare such as John Cameron Mitchell’s “Hedwig and the Angry Inch,” Bernardo Bertolucci’s “The Dreamers” and Gus Van Sant’s “Last Days.” He last appeared on the bigscreen as a sadistic villain in Michael Haneke’s 2007 remake “Funny Games.” Parts & Labor recently produced Mike Mills’ “Beginners” and is currently in pre-production on the Ol’ Dirty Bastard pic “Dirty White Boy.” Pitt is repped by WME and Parseghian/Planco, while UTA reps Devor.

Behind The Scenes: Prada Campaign S/S 2012

Actor Michael Pitt is re-modelled as a Golden Age of Hollywood studio icon in this striking series of performative portraits for Prada’s Spring/Summer menswear campaign.

The brooding star of Martin Scorsese’s prohibition-era television epic Boardwalk Empire and Bernardo Bertolucci’s The Dreamers explores the language of male role models from the rock star to the playboy, from the self-reflective introvert to the engaging and humorous farceur.

These cinematic codes are revealed as the many sides and moods of Michael Pitt as well as the many aspects of men living in a post-modern period of extended leisure and work culture. Contemporary men work when they play and play when they work — the boundaries are no longer clear — as the campaign’s simple props and gestures emphasise.

Shot by world-renowned fashion and portrait photographer David Sims, the images are presented in rich tones and deeply saturated colours echoing 1950s studio portraiture, and subtly referencing the celluloid iconography of the Prada Spring/Summer womenswear campaign.

Michael attends SAG Awards 2012 in Los Angeles!

On the TV side, there were a good amount of repeat wins from last year’s SAG Awards. “Boardwalk Empire” and “Modern Family” won for ensemble in drama and comedy series, respectively. Steve Buscemi and Betty White also won again, as did Alec Baldwin. You can check all winners here!

Congratulations to the whole BE crew! Mike attended the ceremony yesterday with his girlfriend, check out some pictures below.

Michael is the new face of Prada Menswear S/S 2012!

Michael Pitt is featured in Prada’s big screen-inspired Spring/Summer 2012 campaign.

The 30-year-old actor appears in the luxury label’s new advertisements, which were shot by renowned photographer David Sims.

The newly-released images show Michael in a range of brooding poses which are reflective of a true Hollywood icon. The campaign “explores the language of male role models from the rock star to the playboy, from the self-reflective introvert to the engaging and humorous farceur,” the official statement reads.

“Contemporary men work when they play and play when they work. The boundaries are no longer clear – as the campaign’s simple props and gestures emphasise,” it continues.

In the vintage-feel pictures, Michael is seen wearing a range of retro designs including a dapper neck scarf, short-sleeved print shirt, and fitted trousers.

He uses a range of props in the images, including an electric white guitar.

The campaign will appear in print starting January 10.

EW.com: Michael Pitt talks ‘Boardwalk Empire’ season 2 finale

The brooding, ambitious Jimmy Darmody is no more. But the actor who played him, Michael Pitt, says he respected producers’ stunning decision to kill off his pivotal Boardwalk Empire character in the show’s second season finale.

“I like it,” wrote the often press-shy Pitt, responding to questions from EW via e-mail about the finale. “As much as I will miss working with everyone on this incredible project, I thought that it would be very shocking, and I’m always drawn to that.”

Showrunner Terence Winter decided near the end of shooting the season that Nucky Thompson (Steve Buscemi) should execute his young protégé-turned-rival in the finale’s last moments. The dramatic conclusion caused an explosion of shock and outrage on Twitter, as fans reeled at the loss of a favorite character.

Filming that intense final rain-drenched scene, Pitt recalled, “It was cold and very wet. We were getting rained on and having to run into tents and strip off all of our clothes to try to warm ourselves with heaters. We did that all night.

The exit might cause some to wonder about an industry rumor in October, when Pitt split with his talent agent amid a claim the actor was “difficult” to work with, but Winter said that description is “absolutely not true.” “Michael is a total professional,” Winter says. “He’s intense, of course, but I don’t think you can do that job without being intense.” Pitt said,”I’m confident that I will be judged by my performance and not by the ‘he said, she said.’”

Looking back on his time on the show, Pitt writes, “Every morning I remember thinking that it is so amazing to wake up in Brooklyn, drive 20 minutes to a set, and work with such excellent professionals.”

Pitt’s breakout role was on Dawson’s Creek and he has since appeared in films like Wonderland and Hedwig and the Angry Inch, and headlined Gus Van Sant’s Last Days. In addition to acting, Pitt sings and plays guitar in his band Pagoda. Mike says he isn’t sure of his next move. “But the sky is the limit,” he writes.
